We Be Clubbin' : Opera Nightclub

I know, I'm really behind in posting here.. I'm also a cheater and posting some of my reviews from Yelp on this blog, but it's my blog so I can be late :)

Since I've been in ATL, I've heard a zillion commercials for this place on the radio.  I went with my cousin, Monica, housemate Malika on Thanksgiving night.Ms. Bomchell met us there. The Orlando Magic
was hosting & was in the building was hosting.

My review may be biased because I arrived there with a few drinks in me :)

Parking kinda sucks they have their own lot which was $20.... The lots around the area were $10..... Not bad for mid-town if you split the parking cost with your group.
I printed passes (I hate the standard ATL $20 club cover) to get in free before 11:30 for me and a bunch of my friends.  We got there kinda late and the line was around the door.. The line guy said not to worry, he'd make sure we'd get in with the passes even if it was a little after 11:30pm.. I'm convinced that some of these clubs hold their line to force you to pay $20... The line guy said that if we each paid $20 (we were a group of 6) that we could cut the line and go right in.  I was against it because it took me like and hour to find the right place to print the passes and I'm not made of money and rather spend $20 on drinks inside.
It was kinda disappointing that the coat check was $4!!  It was too cold out to not wear some type of jacket. I'm from NY and have gone to lots of clubs in NYC and coat check is usually $1 or $2. So that was $4 out of my drink budget :(
Most drinks there cost between $7-$12 depending on what you order.  I only needed one refresher drink since I "pre-gamed" before we left.
Inside is nice.  When you walk in there's a backdrop with the clubs logo and the photographer takes "red carpet style" pics. I believe the club has 4 levels.  The top levels over look the main floor and are VIP.
Main Dance Floor

 Another view showing levels 1 & 2

Overall it was a good time, good mix of music, nice crowd.  No "thugs in the club". Did run into a few scrubs! lol
It was a good time, but I also went with GOOD company!

You can print passes for Opera here Day IV Entertainment.  The pass is only good on THURSDAY NIGHTS! Each night is hosted by a different entertainment company.  Try to listen to the radio to see who's hosting the night then get passes or RSVP accordingly.

Restaurant/Food Review: Formosa Chinese Buffet Restaurant

Formosa Chinese Buffet Restaurant

5134 Old National Hwy
College Park, GA 30349
(404) 763-9030

0/5
I was in the area and was craving Chinese.. I wanted to sit down and read my book and I wasn't in the mood for 'fast food' or ordering and then bringing take out home. So I decided to check this place out...As it was the closest place on my GPS.. I wanted to turn around and run as soon as I opened the door, but it was to late....  The staff was really excited to have a customer no one was in the place. During DINNER time!
Since I'm too nice to turn around and run out.  I was seated.....  The food selection was HORRIBLE for a Chinese Buffet.  They had like 15 food items and a small salad bar with generic salad dressing bottles....
The set up looked like a pack & go operation. Like when they set up a buffet for an event.....  I figured I'd have a bowl of wonton soup, read my book and leave.
The soup was soooo salty and had some a lot of cabbage or lettuce stuff floating around in it.  I saw the meat inside the wonton and it was a no go.  It just looked nasty. It didn't look like the inside of any other wonton I've eatin in my entire life.  The soup was so salty it made my lips burn.......
The owner kept coming to my table telling me that the chicken wings would be ready very soon.  I don't know if he was 'stereotyping' me because I'm African American, but I was NOT waiting for them to bring out the chicken wings!
I tried to make the best of it and try a few other things.  The food just looked gross and everything I tasted was soo salty  and nasty. I spit food in my napkin.....
The weird part was that some people came in and the staff and owner knew them.  Like they were regulars....  I rarely bash a place... I kinda feel bad for doing so but.  I will never go there again...  The only thing that was good was my Diet Coke (which came out of a can so I knew it was safe).... I'm not even a Coke fan......

Deals & Coupons

Hi Y'all!!

I just wanted to share a few resources that I've found in Altanta.  Times are hard and were all trying to find the best deals.

Daily Candy

I was a subscriber to the NYC version delivered into my in box everyday until I moved.  I was more than delighted to find out that there's a version for Atlanta! So when I get some money in these empty pockets I'll know where to find exclusive deals, sample sales and stuff to do.  If you set up a profile you can save things to your favorites and view your comments.

Groupon

I'm not quite sure how I stumbled upon this site, but they give out some good deals.  The screen shot above is what I received today. Yesterday's deal was really good!

$50 for $100 worth of spa services!!! I really should of grabbed that deal.  I also like how there are reviews of the featured places.

Yelp

Duh, we all know about Yelp! It's so much more fun to use Yelp in a bigger city.  I pretty much check out anything and everything on Yelp. You can click on Hawt on Yelp and find deals and savings.

I found my new car wash on Yelp! Southern Friends CarWash.  They have like a diner inside.  Who woulda thought that you can get your car cleaned and sit down and have a meal served to you or have one of there 10 flavors of ice cream.  They also give out popcorn. They also recycle 100% of their water.

They don't play in the cafe! I was thinking maybe hot dogs or something....

They also did a great job on my car. It did take a while but I got the  Southern Special $24 which was pretty intense.  My car hasn't been cleaned since before I moved here so it really needed a good cleaning. It's all shiny now and I can have people ride with me and not feel embarrassed. Click here for coupons..

I hope these help some of you guys.  I'll be sure to keep my eyes peeled for more local deals.

Luv Y'all

Crazy Ass Apartment Search!

Hi Y'all!!!  One of the things that's stressing me out the most about moving down to ATL is apartment hunting!!!
When I was down there in July I decided that I wanted to live in the Perimeter/Dunwoody area. Of course my broke behind had to pick one of the more expensive parts of ATL.... Well there are like a zillion apartment complexes down there. I don't know where people in CT live but there aren't as many apartment complexes up here. I literally became a crazy ass person, looking for a place.  Then while I was on citydata.com I found out about a company called PROMOVE.  You email them and they call you and you tell them what part(s) your interested in, your budget, and any other criteria.  Then they email you a customized profile.  There services are free! They just ask that when you fill out a lease agreement you write that PROMOVE referred you. Drew (my Promove rep.) is really helpful and meet all my criteria!  He also told me to STOP SEARCHING on the internet & to stay off of apartmentreviews.com! I'm obsessed with apartmentreviews.com.  I like have to cross-reference everything I read on there.  I also have to realize something that I know because I'm a marketer.  Happy people are less likely to take the time to write a review. Why write a review if your happy?  Angry people!! They will write a review.  So Drew told me that not all but some reviews are from evicted tenets and rental properties bashing each other.....  So based on my 'criteria' and Drew's profile I've narrowed down my choices to the following.

These are some of my favorites based on Drew's profile and my own research..

River Crossing

Quiet and well managed. Right across from the Chattahoochee National Park. Washer/dryer connections. Fitness Center, Jogging Trails, and Tennis Courts.

Dunwoody Ridge

Washer/dryer provided. Great location and walking distance to Marta train station.

Avistele at Glenridge

Look-n-lease within 24 hrs and you can take $250 off the 1st full month, get a year's free maid service OR get a washer/dryer.  Offers non, partial and full renovations including black/stainless appliances and granite counter tops. Awesome community and I love the poolside cabana w/ gas grill!

 Point At Perimeter

W/D included!

Archstone Dunwoody Court

Sun rooms!

Those are my some of my  favs within my budget & criteria. My PROMOVE custom profile had about 20 or so different properties so when I get down there in a few weeks my search will be a lot less hectic!  So what's my criteria????

1# Safety!  This is my first place & I'll be solo so safety is important, and I'm willing to pay a a little more to live in a nicer neighborhood.

2# My unit can't be on the 1st level! Nope Units on the 1st level are more prone to break-in's and I don't want people on top of me. I like to be on top.....

3# W/D on the property. Drew bumped it up a notch for me. Every property has w/d in the facility. Drew named places in my budget with w/d IN THE UNIT!!!!! Heyyyyy!!!  If I don't select a unit with a w/d, all of the units in my profile have a space for w/d and connections!  My friend Brooke who lives in Dunwoody gave me the name of a company that leases w/d and Drew confirmed that they are affordable and great to work with named Appliance Warehouse of America, Inc.
